AKA my knitting dry spell.
You’ve been in the back of my mind blog, as a motivator to knit some stuff already. I mean, come on brain, get with it. The baby is here! At first I thought maybe I wasn’t knitting baby stuff because I didn’t know what I was going to have. There were a few reasons that we decided to not find out what we were having (gender wise- although there was a while where I thought I was having some sort of alien that produced nothing but heartburn), because ultimately, it doesn’t matter- I just wanted the ultrasounds to tell me I had a healthy baby. You know what would’ve been nice? If the ultrasounds had told me I’d be giving birth to a moose of a juggernaut.
Then it was back to back growth spurts and who knows what size he’ll be in next however long mentality. I can’t knit something for a baby when who knows what he’ll weigh or how tall he’ll be two… three… four months or whenever I’ll be done knitting something, right? Oh, and the little fact that just can’t be ignored: I irrationally hate baby knits.
Love the baby.
Just don’t feel like actually knitting him tiny cardigans. I admit, they are adorable and squishy and the cutest things ever! My brain is just like, nope. This is one thing I’m just not even going to try to rationalize. It’s a weird peeve of mine. Other people can knit all kinds of adorable stuff for babies and I’ll cheer them on.
I mean, our friend Steggo crocheted him a little cardigan. Freaking adorable, right?
Oh man, he’s so much more a ginger now. For the longest time John denied that he was a red head but now it can’t be ignored.
Plus, his auntie Erica sewed him up a super sweet space themed blanket to go in his space themed nursery. I’ll hopefully get a post up in the next few months on that. Right now it’s randomly crazy at our house because we moved everything off the second floor, where all the bedrooms are, so we could pull up the carpet and sand/refinish it all at once. Get a nice even finish on the floor boards in all the rooms at the same time. Once that’s done, his nursery will finally be done. Of course, he’s using the blanket now because baby don’t care about time tables:
Does this baby have cool hand made stuff or what? Including another blanket from a sweet knitting buddy I met through you, bloggy. Teekay made him this super nice blanket that he decided to be a baby hunk on:
Plus he has a bunch of sweet toys this his auntie Miranda made him. And while I have a few action shots of him playing with them, I really like this one where John and Ryan are just sitting next to spider deer:
I’m pretty amazed and glad that other people have picked up the ball that I’ve clearly dropped. Not that I’m not crafting, I still am! I made some DS cases for Erica and Jared that I’m pretty proud of.
Doesn’t she look so happy with her pokeball? I decided to go that route because she has the Pikachu DS, as you can see here:
Then I made a Zelda themed DS case for Jared. Which you can see him rocking it here:
Honestly, it wasn’t even like I told him to coordinate the shirt when I gave it to him. Dude loves the Zelda.
Plus I took up a new hobby briefly: copper enameling. I think I’ll go back to it too, because it is a super fun craft. You melt the enamel onto the copper pieces. This is one of my favorite things that I made for John:
I etched the copper and then burned off the enamel to make a Half Life themed key chain. What do you think? Do you feel bombarded with images yet? Sometime I picture some poor person who stumbles on this blog out where there’s only dial up and they just curse me before trying to exit and having their browser just shudder and die on them.
Anyways, it’s the beginning of Fall and I’ll actually miss Summer this year. It was a fantastic one! The weather wasn’t burning my face off hot. I have a sweet little pool baby who loves water and swimming. It was a good time this year. Hopefully Fall will treat us well and I’ll have some actual knitting content for you soon. I should, if I could just get the thumbs in some mittens.
Maybe if I get with the program soon, I won’t just throw a million images at you from the past few months. I do feel a little crazy, like, LOOK AT ALL MY BABY PICTURES. He’s just so cute and gets cuter every day.
