A Daunting Task

July 29, 2008

When you’re a little one, sometimes the simplest things to everyone else are a pretty big task in your book. Speaking of books… as much as I love them, they don’t really help in the matter. I think it was when I was fifteen that I finally started to think that a witch wasn’t going to shove me in the oven anymore.

Even things like bathing make the most hearty and steadfast get a little weak in their knees.

Tubby, while cute and ‘bubbly’ is also a big intimidator to this little guy. However, it’s always a big comfort for me to take something that you might not enjoy and relate it back to a fun thing… like a day at the pool!

Details:

Tubby by Anna Hrachovec at Mochimochiland. These pictures are for the contest. My friend Crystal made this figure for me from a very specific picture I had in my head. You should check out her shop! Say you like to collect a specific thing, like, oh I don’t know, raccoons… (*cough*) and you think, man, I really want some raccoon stitch markers- well she will make you some. They will also be super adorable. If you tell her that you saw her shop ad here, she’ll probably even cut you a deal, since you’re a friend of a friend. :)

I’ll give it to a midget

I’m not dead! (Just maimed a little by life, woe is me, weep weep)

The thing is, I was secretly promising you, my dear blog, pictures of something finished finally. Weeeellllll, there’s a story behind that. See, I was working on a baby blanket for a friend. Then she randomly sprang a deadline on me and said, hey I’m having my baby shower! (Last weekend.) Well, okay. So I worked and worked and this is where I got to as I was leaving the door to go to her shower:

Close but not quite. It also looks a lot smaller but I think once I add all the little points, it’ll be a good size. Not as big as it probably should be but big enough for a baby blanket and small enough for a security blanket or “Linus blanket”.

Since I didn’t get this sucker done and I was working on it up until the last minute, I figured, crap, might as well go and get my friend something else so we got her a bunch of picture books… including my favorite kids book:

Because we got it, we showed up to the shower a little late. Plus the shower was randomly kind of far away. So I felt bad and thought great, I need to apologize for being late.

Well, we showed up and she wasn’t there. The shower started at 2pm and at 3:30 we walked out of the door and we were super miffed to say the least. I should’ve taken my damn books with me, honestly. Who doesn’t show up to a shower for themselves? She wasn’t in labor. Hell, the baby isn’t even due until September…

So now I have this stupid baby blanket and it just needs a little bit more effort put into it to be finished but what in the crack am I going to do with it? Gah! Okay, cat picture now:

Awww, I feel better now. Although I still don’t know what I’m going to do about this blanket. Whatever, I have other stuff to focus on finishing. Plus there’s other fun stuff happening here, like knitting in nature- look a bird!

Then we reached the promise land:

Much like in The Land Before Time. Only less dinosaurs and more knitters. What else? I’ve been reading and of course saw the Dark Knight like everyone else and their mother. Tomorrow I’m going to go see The X-Files movie with my mom. That’ll be… it’ll just be. Plus, I became a Big Sister today! However, I can’t really post about that yet because I’m still worried.

Oh yeah and John’s cat thinks she’s a person:

Not mine but others

July 7, 2008

So a long time ago (almost a year! holy craaaap) this blog started out as a joint effort in crime against humanity. However, after a while there was still only one post by someone who was not me, so it just became my blog. My blog about me. Not even about knitting because according to John this blog isn’t about knitting it’s about a knitter who does things and sometimes happens to get some knitting done. (so.true.)

Still, while I am breathing, I don’t think I can post all about me me me right now… at least, this second, give me a minute to warm up by showing you this

Well shoot! It’s a picture of me. Looking like a total doofball yokel. Ronanda knit the hat and while I gave her instructions on felting (check the hat every two seconds! Are you checking it? ARE YOU CHECKING IT?)… somehow it felted into that thing. She said she didn’t wander away, she just stood there over the washing machine and daydreamed. Well, I can’t fault her on that one since I don’t have any FO’s to show due to my constant daydreaming. Still, this isn’t about me, it’s about Ronanda:

She’s a beautiful laaaaydy. This is her holding her very first sweater! It’s the Men’s Dressy Sweater from Suss Cousin’s Hollywood Knits and she made it in Wool Ease. She made this sweater for a boy… who is kind of a jerkface… but I guess he’s going into a cold cold monastery to become a monk, so hey. Now he can wear Neo’s sweater and it might give him Kung Fu. There was a slight problem:

It turned me into a hunchback!

No, the hole for the head was a bit on the ri-freakin-tiny-lous side, so it was hard to get the noggin through. Everyone is finishing things though:

Cath finished her socks.

Mollylouhoo finished a baby blanket AND discovered she had an armpit. Just one. Oh! She also had a birthday, which means she’s a whole year older!

This is her being all cute with the yarn at her retro themed birthday party. This past weekend was a lot of fun, we saw the fireworks near us which were pretty amazing and sweet… then we went to John’s families house and played in the backyard like real grown adults do. Here’s a picture of his sister having me eat a wooden watermelon:

Delicious.
