Scary Spooooky Tangents

Happy Halloween!

Pattern: Felted Pumpkins by Jordana Paige

Size made: small

Yarn: Cascade 220

Notes and Things: Has anyone seen Top Design on Bravo? There was a designer named Goil and I loved him, if only for the reason that he had cool glasses. He also had a sweet name and said “my name’s Goil, it’s like Gargoyle.” I’ve always wanted a gargoyle, ever since I was small and would watch the show Gargoyles. Thankfully Target had my wants and needs in mind when they started selling that bad boy in the picture.

What does any of that have to do with knitting? Nothing really. I’ve just been having a hard time coming up with a post lately. Not because I don’t have stuff and things to post. I have both stuff and/or things in abundance. As you can see, I finally finished that pumpkin! It was a fast knit, fun to felt and would’ve been done sooner if I didn’t have stuffing issues. Stuffing issues which led to a lopsided pumpkin. (I stuffed it, then the stuffing settled all weird, then while it was sitting around settling, it got all lopsided and I just sort of watched it happen. Huh.) However, it is a really fun knit and the second I saw it, I knew I had to knit it. Mostly because I have a love for all things pumpkin.

Have you ever been to the Circleville Pumpkin Show?

I go every year. Including this year, which was last week. I took this picture from the ferris wheel.

This house makes me feel alright about my love for pumpkins. It’s always good knowing that there’s someone else out there with a love that’s more crazy than yours. Unless you’re going for ultimate crazy person status, then second best feels a little crappy.

Reasons I love Halloween:

  • Candy.
  • It makes me appreciate Fall and how it’s the creepiest of all the seasons.
  • Family can’t get pissed off about too much.
  • It encourages people to get creative. For some people it’s to come up with an original outfit and for sorority girls it’s a new and original way to be slutty.
  • Strategic candy game plans. I love it when kids do their homework on where to strike and at what time. (Or maybe me and my friend were just weird on this one.)

Coincidence?

Remember, my blog name is Apocaknits. So, of course you can’t expect me to pass this up because it was just too freaking… yeah, I don’t know what the word is, maybe I’ll come up with something later.

Okay, how about a close up, so you don’t just think, what’s so weird about a screenshot of Ravelry?

dun Dun DUN!

It snuck up on me!

Oh man, it’s seriously already time for the Pumpkin Show, or you might also know it as the “Greatest Free Show On Earth”…? How did it get here so fast? I still have a partially inflated felted pumpkin that I need to finish and a bunch of pumpkin charms that I need to turn into, uh, I have no idea what. (Honestly, just the fact that there are pumpkin charms out there in the world was enough for me to buy them.)

I met with some new knitters tonight. The ladies from WestSideColumbusKnitting, who were all very friendly. My progress on the sweater for Crazy Aunt Purl’s contest before meeting them was this:

Little cat vest, with eyes already glowing with hatred and disdain. Oh, I love my kitty!

However, at the end of the meeting I had attached the sleeves. Which led to full blown cat torture.

I love crafting. Mostly because it’s the only thing I can think of, off the top of my head, where talking about needles and acquiring them is totally acceptable. I just got a set of DPNs in the mail today from eBay. I also got an interchangeable Boye circular set not too long ago from eBay too. I don’t have good thrifting/garage sale luck that everyone else seems to have. (I know, you really feel bad for me right?)

The little guy on the right there is supposed to be Blooper (from Mario) although he just looks like any old squid. Hmmm…. I knit him up on a whim for my swap partner. I also made them a Toad keychain. I’m still feeling like my craft collection for them is kind of weak so far, hopefully I’ll come up with something else.

Also, as if this post couldn’t get any more random. I went to the Cupcakery today.

In my attempt to get familiar with Dublin, I stopped in at the cupcakery and got a pumpkin caramel cupcak, which I designed myself with cream cheese and Halloween themed doodads. (See how the pumpkin theme came back around? I’m grasping at relevance here, work with me.)

Yeah. Cupcakes. Honestly, I do all this for the children, really.

Back in time for bad weather!

I’m back from Minnesota! I brought a finished Jaywalker and bad weather with me though. So yeah, here are the different angles of the one sock I managed to finish in two weeks worth of knitting time:

Can you tell how proud I am of this friggin sock?

Also, knitting this sock was exactly what I needed. I don’t know yet if I’m a “sock knitter” or a “lace knitter” or a whatever knitter. I just know that when I’m feeling burnt out on projects and I knit something on a size two needle, coming back to something on a size 8 needle makes me feel better. Like, man, I’m flying through this thing, I’ll be done in no time!

While I was in MN, lots of stuff happened, which I figured that would mean more pictures… but I actually didn’t take all that many. Well, compared to the fiftybajillion I usually take. One thing that I did was go to some pottery place with granma, where we painted mugs:

I was painting one for my swap partner. Hopefully it’ll turn out cool, I’ll find out when Granma mails it to me! She painted a giant soup mug thing for Granpa, which was adorable and said I Love You and had a little heart at the very bottom. Which isn’t that just so sweet? I know that if I just drank a bowl of soup and saw a little heart at the bottom I might sigh contentedly thinking “aw gee, I married a swell gal.” Especially if I were a Little Rascal.

Sorry this post is lame. It’s honestly just lame and grey and icky out and I want to drink soup out of a bowl/mug that has a little heart at the bottom of it and just merge into the couch.
